Grampound Veterans 2-2 Kernow Wanderers

17th September 2023r
Cornwall Veterans League West

Grampound started really well in their first league match of the campaign but went behind following a series of unfortunate errors which eventually gave the visitors an easy chance that they took well. Grampound fought back strongly and looked the team much more likely to score but it was not until well into the half that striker Ross Jackson-Hicks beat his marker on the edge of the penalty area and drilled  a low shot past the goalkeeper's right hand into the far corner to notch an equaliser.  Grampound lost their way a little once level and the visitors began to threaten more.  The introduction of  Dayle Gibert at half-time enabled Grampound to gain more possession but, again, Kernow Wanderers scored when Grampound were on top to take the lead once again.  Grampound continued to battle and the last 15 minutes saw them pressurising the visiting defence but sound defending looked like all the points would be heading away from the home team.  In the very last minute, Jules Woodman struck the bar from 25 yards and also managed to collect the ball from the rebound.  As he carried the ball into the penalty area a desperate tackle floored him and a penalty was awarded.  Woodman picked himself up and rifled penalty kick into the bottom corner of the net to give Grampound a deserved share of the points with only seconds remaining on the referee's watch.
