Grampound 2-3 Week St Mary

23 March 2024

St Piran League

Grampound were not really at their best in this match, conceding possession far too easily, but wll feel a little disappointed to have not come away with a point after a stirring fightback in the last part of the game.

Grampound played in a very rushed manner throughout the first half and wt the break the visitors were a well-deserved goal ahead.  Grampound had hardly threatened.  The second half still saw the visitors playing the tidier football but the home 'keeperRoch was rarely  troubled.  Following a corner on about the 60 minute mark, Grampound began to esert a little pressure on the home goal and after a few close calls John Nel's low shot found the net and Grampound were back on terms.  The next few minutes saw a disappointing phase for Grampound which included seeing a player in the sinbin and a couple of goals conceded, the second a bit fortunate after an obvious foul throw.

However, heads did not drop and a brave run from near the halfway line by Ben Taylor saw him upended as he was about to shoot about 8 yards out and a penalty was duly awarded.  Hayden Bates struck a sweet penalty kick to put Grampound back to just a goal behind.  The last 15 minutes of the game saw Grampound dominating the game and the visitors had to battle to keep their goal secure, their goalkeeper making a couple of good saves and shots going close.
