Redruth Utd 1-1 Grampound Vets

16th April 2023

Cornwall Veterans League

Grampound began the game in terrific form, passing neatly and controlling the game.  A couple of possible chances came and went and then the inevitable happened.  A goalkeeping error ended with Redruth taking the lead against the run of play and for the rest of the half a deflated Grampound had, at last, to defend as confidence spread through the home side.  Grampound also started the second half well, pushing Redruth back and looking dangerous on the break but the final pass was not being given cleanly but eventually a tidy move saw Alex Makepeace release Simon Spurr who won the race to be first to the ball rather than the advancing goalkeeper and he flicked the ball into the roof of the net for the equaliser.  Much of the rest of the game was shared evenly apart from a brief period when Grampound keeper Paul Bond on a few occasions had to save bravely at the feet of oncoming Redruth players to block shots.  Sharing the points was probably a fair result  at the end of the game.
