North Hill 0-7 Grampound

24th September 2022

Duchy League

The first five minutes saw the ball shifted end to end with little purpose and even less effect but after that Grampound were in complete contol of the game.  They stole the ball from north Hill by pressing effectively and passed it comfortably, putting the home side under considerable pressure.  Some of the passing movements during the game were really well executed and after Danny Austin tapped in from close range when he latched onto a loose rebound from Ryan Morcom's deflected shot, the confidence surged through the Grampound players. Chances began to come thick and fast and the second goal came when Mocom cut inside from the right and hit a shot towards the far corner.  There was a deflection but not enough to divert the ball away from goal.  Jules Woodman scored the third with a shot into the top corner from 25 yards.  Morcom scored his second following some neat play and a final through ball from Woodman and Grampound went into the break 4-0 ahead.  The score might have been many more but for some terrific goalkeeping by North Hill's Martin Budge who made a string of outstanding saves to keep the scoreline reasonably respectable.

Budge did make a mistake early in the second half when his poor clearance went straight to Austin who hit the ball back past him from 40 yards into the back of the net.  Austin completed his hat trick with a well-struck low drive into the corner and Sam Blount made it seven when he dribbled into the right hand side of the home penalty area, worked his way past a couple of challenges and then hit a low hard unsaveable shot from 10 yards past Budge in the hme goal.

Thigs really came together for Grampound in this game.  Passing, tackling, heading, movement and all other aspects of the game were executed very pleasingly.  Some tougher games to come, however!
