Helston Raiders 0-3 Grampound

19th November 2022

Cornwall Junior Cup Round 3

Grampound did not really know what to expect of the opposition in this match but in the opening period of the match stifled the Helston side and created enough chances to win the game at that early stage.  Only two of these chances were taken however, a header by Sam Johnson from a long throw on the matchbox-sized pitch and a left foot 25 yarder driven low  into the corner past the left hand of the goalkeeperby Sam Blount.  Grampound really dominated this period and even when the home side pressed a little later in the half, Grampound should have extended the lead through a few more excellent chances to score, but only went in 2-0 up.

The second half saw the home side attack and put the Grampound penalty area under a bit of pressure for 10 minutes but Grampound got their rythmn back when a long clearance allowed Dylan Fox to pick the ball up, power past a couple of home defenders and drill a low shot into the net to increase the comfort level of the Grampound team.  Numerous chances continued to to come and go and , in truth, the score might have been embarrassing for the hosts if just half had found their target.  Grampound were good value for their win and were pleased with their comfortable win and in reaching the last 16 of the this pretigious competition.
