Grampound 6-0 Lostwithiel Res.

12th November 2022

Duchy League

The opening quarter of an hour saw honours fairly even but after that it was a dominant performance in the main from the home side.  Sam Johnson started the rout off when a perfect pass opened up the defence and he drilled a low shot into the far bottom corner from a difficult angle.  Lostwithiel continued to battle however and it was not until the stroke of half time that the lead was extended when a shot was on its way into the net when a  defender clearly denied a goal with  a blatant handball.  Surprisingly, a yellow card only was shown rather than the expected red as this seems to be the current procedure among local referees.  Everyone was surprised, including the defending team, but Dean Dunn despatched the penalty in his usual efficient manner.

The second half saw the visitors a little more subdued and Grampound began to create chances more frequently.  The scoreline may have been more but four really good picture goals were scored by Danny Austin, Sam Johnson for his second, Lewis Foskett and a header from Zak Barker, the  latte rbeing his first goal for Grampound.  Stuart Harris, who has not played in goal competitively  for some years after being an outstanding Grampound keepera few years back,  stepped in to solve a golkeeping crisis when regular keeper Dan Riley had to withdraw through injury before the game.  Stuart did not have too much to do but his handling was excellent, as it always has been, and he made an outstanding save late on at a corner.

This was a very pleasing win after the difficult ending to the previous week's victory against the same opponents and it was a buoyant squad looking forward to their Junior Cup tie on the next Saturday.
