Troon 5-1 Veterans

20th September 2020

Cornwall Veterans League Cup, Preliminary Round

Grampound again started with a bare 11 but made things difficult for a tidy home team.  Grampound managed to keep the home side at arm's length for the opening half hour but, as often happens, a rather fortunate goal was scored as the ball floated into Grampound's net.  Grampound then had their best spell of the game as passes were not misdirected too often and poor ball control was not so evident.  John Ward won the ball high up the pitch and his neat square ball to Mike Bawden saw the player-manager sidefoot home from 15 yards for an excellent goal.  Grampound continued to look a changed team but unfortunately, a free header at a corner was allowed and Troon's lead was restored.

With legs wilting in the heat, Grampound's lack of subs and, in a few cases, a bit of composure began to show and Troon were to run out comfortable winners.
