Both sides found it difficult to play in the gale-like conditions but the home side adapted better in the opening exchanges and a little naivety in the back line keeping attackers onside allowed Downderry to take a deserved lead on 10 minutes. Grampound fought back and had the better of the rest of the first half but failed to really test the home goalkeeper through a mixture of lack of conviction and lack of composure when presented with reasonable chances.
Grampound again created some decent opportunities in the opening minutes of the second period but Downderry went down the other end, scored twice and the game was effectively over. Grampound continued to show defensive deficiencies, especially with keeping strikers onside and the home side ran away with the game.
