Match Report

Grampound 2-0 Perranporth Res. (match abandoned after 76 minutes)

13th August 2022

Pre-season friendly

Grampound looked a much more potent force with Danny Austin and Sam Blount being the dominant force in a dominant performance from the first minute.  Grampound were never put under too much pressure at the back with the visitors seemingly happy to play the ball around at the back, something which seemed to drain their defenders' energy on a scorching afternoon more than those pressing for Grampound.  Sooner or later a mistake would gift the ball to Grampound. Grampound almost opened the scoring when neat footwork gave Austin a shooting chance from the edge of the area, the ball blasted against the crossbar and back into play with Fox unable to volley the rebound as he wanted,  Debutant Kyle Hughes gave to visitors a torrid time but a deserved lead took time to materialise.  The ball was played behind a centre back and Dylan Fox used his pace to get away from the defenders before slipping the ball forcefully past the advancing keeper to make it 1-0.
In the second half Grampound looked comfortable but did not really extend the visiting keeper too much but some unpleasant issues led to an unusual end to the game.   Dean Dunn and a defender were involved in a battle for the ball and a visiting player abused the referee with some very choice language (according to the ref).  The player was sent off which upset other visiting players who threatened to walk off.  They didn't but with Grampound's midfield playing some sumptuous passes for the home strikers to run on to, it looked as if Grampound would score with every attack.  First, Adam Jeffries was given the chance to score down the left but his shot cleared the bar.  Sub Ryan Morcom had a similar chance soon after and he expertly placed the ball in the corner for Grampound's second.  Just minutes later a Perranporth player was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area and this was followed by more aguing and some seemingly unpleasant words again.  A little sympathy could be extended to Perranprth but it was a clear penalty and their antics resulted in the referee deciding to abandon the game with about 14 minutes remaining, denying Dean Dunn the chance to score from the penalty spot.  This was a  disappointing end to a very  pleasing performance by Grampound.
