Grampound Veterans 2-2 Royal Par

23rd January  2022

Cornwall Veterans League

This was a fairly even, if scrappy, game that was played in a good spirit but Grampound will feel a little hard done by because of the nature of the visitors' equaliser in the final few minutes of the match.

Par went ahead midway throught the first half when their striker found himself in acres of space and he ran on, rounded the keeper and slotted home.  Cosequently Grampound were a goal down at the break but seized control of the game and were on top for a long period.  Grampound were eventually Par had a player senable to get the goal that they deserved when the ball was handled in the area and Jules Woodman scored comfortably from the spot.  Soon after, a Par player was sent to the sin bin and it then seemed that Grampound relaxed a little, allowing Par to come back into the game more.   With about 15 minutes left,  Alex Makepeace outpaced the visiting defence and finished beautifully over the goalkeeper to put Grampound ahead.  Par managed to equalise with 3 minutes remaining but the build up was controversial.  Grampound defenders were adamant that the ball was miles  over the goal line but the Par forward continued and play went on, the ball eventually being cleared for a corner.  The corner kick was slightly mishit but evaded Grampound's static defenders for a tap in from two hards.
