Tregrehan Mills 2-0  Grampound

23rd October 2021

Cornwall Junior Cup Round 2

Grampound unfortunately had three selected players pull out on Saturday morning and so had to turn up at their Premier Division opponents with a bare eleven.  Things got worse when skipper Mark Wherry aggravated an injury as he won a tackle with just 5 minutes gone and could take no further part in the game.  Grampound had to play with 10 men for much of the game but were fortunate to enlist veteran Tony Ford who turned up to watch but came on to help the team with  about 25 minutes to play.
The home side had much the better of possession but Grampound defended well throughout the game with the back line well-marshalled by player-manager James Webb.  Tregrehan Mills were reduced to long shots for much of the game.  The first goal was a little fortunate with ex-Grampound striker Hayden Boxall running into a Grampound defender and being awarded a penalty which was duly despatched.  Grampound did put the home defence under pressure a few times but the extra man told in the end.  The second home goal came with about 10 minutes remaining, a cross-cum-shot finding its way after Grampound had given the ball away cheaply.  The performance, especially defensively, was however pretty pleasing.
