Match Report

North Petherwin Res. 4-0 Grampound

27th November 2021

Duchy League Division 2

A difficult week involving issues of unavailability and Covid resulted in Grampound putting out a much depleted bare 11 and the result fully reflected the gulf between the teams on the day in a match played in a freezing strong wind which certainly made Grampound's task seemily more difficult. Grampound were a goal down after just 7 minues when a hastily cleared cross came straight back and was unfortunately deflected into the net by a Grampound defender.  Soon after, Jules Woodman was surprisingly penalised for handball when he lost his footing and fell on the ball. A penalty was awarded and despatched for a comfortable 2 goal lead for the hosts.  The neat passing of North Petherwin eclipsed Grampound's tendency to show little composure and to give away the ball continuously, often in the most dangerous areas. Two more goals followed before the break, both defendable on another day, to add to Grampound's misery.
The second half saw North Petherwin continue to dominate possession but a combination of hard work, some dogged defending by Grampound and poor finishing by the hosts saw no further addition to the score, but this was not a game which Grampound will look back on favourably.
