Grampound 2-2 Boscastle Res.

20th November 2021

Duchy League Division 2

Grampound had another poor start when the visitors twice waltzed through the heart of the Grampound midfield and defence to score two easy goals in the first fifteen minutes.  The team started to overcome that awful start and were given a hand when confusion in the Boscastle defence allowed Dylan Fox to pull a goal back and soon after Jake Schofield was clearly brought down in the penalty area and Ollie Young stepped up to score comfortably from the penalty spot.   Now back in the match, Grampound had their best spell, pressurising the visiting defenders and looking much more assured on the ball.  On the stroke of half time Grampound had the ball in the Boscastle net again, this time from a corner but the referee had spotted a foul that ruled out a goal.
After the break, Boscastle increased their intensity and Grampound had to defend well to hang on to their point. Tackles,  blocks and defensive headers restricted the visitors to mainly speculative crosses and Dan Riley's handling was as immaculate as ever.  It was still a well-organised and brave display from Grampound  as Boscastle saw their chance of all the points slipping away.  Grampound might even have notched a winner when, with little time remaining, Dylan Fox was presented with the ball about 30 yards out and he raced in on goal.  Unfortunately his final shot was a little too high and grazed the bar instead of rippling the net.  Grampound managed to negotiate the final minutes without too many alarms as Boscasle threw men forward into the home penalty area and were pleased to take a valuable point in a match against a good, quick side.
