St Minver Res. 1-1 Grampound (aet, score 1-1 at 90 mins)
St Minver win 4-3 on penalties

19th September 2020

Cornwall Junior Cup

A bare 11 turned out for Grampound after numerous withdrawals through injury and unavailability.  The 11 included manager and veteran James Webb who was playing his first Saturday match for two and a half years following serious injury.  The home side enjoyed the majority of possession but only rarely troubled the Grampound back four and Jordan Still was impressive in goal. Grampound took the lead after 38 minutes when a corner was knocked out to Aidan Richards and his low shot from 25 yards evaded a crowd in the penalty area and hit  the corner of the net.  Grampound continued to battle and withstood increased pressure after the break, looking well in control, until 10 minutes from time when an unfortunate tackle upended a home player and the resulting penalty kick was hit well for the equaliser.

Extra time was something that the tired legs of the bare 11 did not need but the team battled away, giving St Minver very few opportunities and the squad can be proud of their efforts against a decent side with 5 subs available.  Unfortunately, Grampound did not perform as well as we would have liked in the penalty shoot-out but can still be pleased with their performance under difficult circumstances.
