Queens Rangers 5-2 Grampound

24th October 2020

Duchy League Division 2

GThe home team were quickly into their stride and Grampound had to work hard in the opening 15 minutes to prevent them running away with the game. In a rare foray forwards, an excellent cross from Matt Fletcher could only be palmed out by the home keeper and Dylan Fox was on hand to lash home a fierce volley.  That was about as good as it got in the first half as the team were second to almost everything, looked sluggish and continually misplaced passes, giving Queens a very easy ride.  An embarrassing quarter of an hour before the break saw Queens score some very easy goals to take a 5-1 lead into the second half.  It might have been worse, however, but Dan Riley pulled off some good saves to prevent a cricket score.

A furious Grampound manager tore into the team at half time and was rewarded with a much improved second half display.  Martin Lloyd got on the end of a free kick to pull a goal back and Grampound might have grabbed a third and given Queens a fright but a penalty was missed after Pete Thomas was fouled as he drove into the penalty area.  Worries remained, however, and Dan Riley's excellent display continued and was instumental in keeping a second half clean sheet.
