Grampound First Team 2018-9
Match Report

Foxhole 3-1 Grampound

Saturday 27th October 2018
Duchy League Division 2

Although a defeat, this was Grampound's best and most satisfying performance for a considerable time. Although down to a bare 11 including 2 players who normally only appear for the veterans and one making his first ever start in men's football, the team were organised and on the front foot for much of the game, the goals against being a little unfortunate.

The team set up slightly differently than normal and looked very difficult to break down although league leaders Foxhole had more possession. Grampound created 3 excellent chances and should have been comfortably ahead in the opening 25 minutes. A mazy run and shot from Fox, a shot from Wells and a header from Jules Woodman should all have ended up in the net but somehow didn't. With the team soaking up pressure and keeping the home side at arm's length for almost all the first half, it looked good until a slip in the penalty area offered a close-in chance and Foxhole were suddenly a goal ahead.

The second half started in awful fashion for Grampound. Although playing with the elements and slope in their favour, Foxhole doubled their lead with their first attack. The goal was a little fortunate, a couple of ricochets ending at the feet of an attacker just a yard out. The next half hour saw Grampound carry the game to the home side and they were unlucky not to bring home at least one point. A sweet passing move from their own penalty area ended with a pinpoint cross from Dylan Fox finding the head of Chris Wells at the far post and his header gave the goalkeeper no chance. It was Grampound now who made the running and they really deserved an equaliser. However, following a corner Grampound were slow to close down a cross and Foxhole scored with a header that put the game beyond the visitors.
