Grampound First Team 2018-9
Match Report

Grampound 1-4 Altarnun

Saturday 6th October 2018
Duchy League Division 2

This was a disappointing performance from Grampound, allowing a team to outplay because they had more determination and desire to win. Things started badly when a key defender was unexpectedly unavailable and the planned goalkeeper reported an injury during the warm-up. All this completely disrupted the midfield as Mark Wherry was drafted in to play in goal at the last minute. This showed when in their first attack, he had a rush of blood and committed a foul on an Altarnun player and the resulting penalty was put away to give the visitors a lead. Ten minutes later some soft defending allowed an Altarnun player an easy run into the penalty area and he finished coolly.

With Grampound seemingly unable to put too much together, Altarnun were having a very easy ride and it was well into the second half before they were put under some pressure. BJ Walkham reduced the arrears with a well-struck free kick from just outside the penalty area but the team rarely threatened other than that. As Grampound chased the game late on, Altarnun broke twice to put the result beyond doubt, although both of these goals looked emminently preventable.
