Grampound First Team 2018-9
Match Report

Grampound 1-3 Lamerton Community

Saturday 3rd November 2018
Duchy League Division 2

Visitors Lamerton were the better team at the start and their high league position looked justified, but although their share of possession was high they did not create too many clear chances. Grampound were therefore unlucky to go behind early on when the strong wind helped to float the ball over stand-in keeper Wilson who could not keep the ball out. Lamerton deserved to go into the break a goal ahead but Grampund also had opportunities to pull the scores level.

Grampound opened the second half strongly, keeping possession better without troubling the away defenders too much, but as has been the case too many times recently, rather than pushing on and getting back into the game, the team conceded a fluke goal when a tackle was won in Grampound's area, only to be played back to the striker who managed to force the ball over the line to put Lamerton 2 ahead. Lamerton went 3 ahead when a corner was unchallenged and a simple header found its way in. The game looked over, but at the re-start, Mark Wherry spotted the Lamerton keeper off his line and blasted the ball over him into the net from the half-way line to score a remarkable goal and to keep the match alive. Grampound pushed for more but it was not to be as the visitors shut up shop in the closing period.
