Wendron 1-3 Grampound Veterans

(Cornwall Veterans League Supplementary Cup)

An impressive performance from Grampound saw them run out deserved winners although the scoreline did not really do them justice. Neat short passing saw them take the fight to the home team and although it was far from one-way traffic in the first half, Grampound might have been well ahead by the break. Rob Sharpe twice went close with good headers and Andy Peers rattled the underside of the bar following some fine moves while Glyn Ford's running with the ball was a constant torment to Wendron.  The game was scoreless at the break, however.

Grampound continued in the same vein after half-time and eventually made the breakthrough when a chip from John Ward released Mike Bawden and the striker calmly controlled the ball and picked his spot from 15 yards to put the visitors ahead. The lead was extended soon after when Bawden played in Ford who finished neatly with a low shot. Wendron now pushed forward in search of something and pulled a goal back with about 15 minutes left.  They threw players forward but the Grampound defence held firm and managed to create a number of chances on the break.  The lead should have been extended but chances were squandered until Matt Clements put the result beyond doubt with a tap in with just a few minutes left.
