Grampound 0-2 Queens Rangers

(Duchy League Division 1)

Availability is a big concern at Grampound and getting a consistent team out is proving very difficult. However, the squad tonight acquitted themselves brilliantly, defending well and denying a good opposition team too many sights at goal. Adrian Martin, called in at the last minute, played very well and marshalled defenders in front of him. The back four and holding midfielders were solid and allowed little opportunity to attackers. Ryan Orchard, up front on his own was a constant thorn in the side of the visitors, aided by a good display from Jordan Still playing wide left. The goals were a little unfortunate, the first on the stroke of half time when a cross floated in when misjudged and the second an outstanding volley late on which on another day might have gone anywhere. Grampound had their chances - a couple of scrambles in the visitors' 6-yard box, a Sparkes shot that flew just over, hitting a post and an Orchard run that might have had a positive result on another day.

Although a defeat, this was a game that the both the young players and those more experienced in the Grampound team could look back on with a bit of pride after a battling display.
