St Newlyn East Res. 1-5 Grampound Res.

(Duchy League Division 5)
Back to Fixtures

Grampound Res were without manager Tony Ford for the trip to St Newlyn East so it was left up to Glyn Leaney to take the reigns in Ford's absence.
Grampound started brightly when in the opening few minutes Jules Woodman flicked on a long Ryan Henderson goalkick which put Ryan Orchard in on goal. Unfortunately Orchard's chip went just over the home side's crossbar. On the 15 minute mark Grampound did find the back of the net when Orchard's corner was met by Tim Peers. St Newlyn East did come more into the game as the half when on but were unable to create a clear goalscoring oppotunity thanks the solid Grampound back 3 of Richards, Leaney and Cooper. So 1-0 the score remained going into half-time.
Grampound started the brighter of the two sides in the second half but didn't extend their lead until the 60th minute when Ian McDonnell chipped the ball over the top of the Newlyn East defence for Jules Woodman to race clear of the back four. Woodman hit the ball first time into the near post top corner with his unfavoured left foot from the edge of the area. Ryan Orchard moments later made the score 3-0 with a classy finish. St Newlyn East made the score 3-1 when Ryan Henderson's poor clearance was punished by Matt Dixon. With 15 minutes remaining Orchard restored the 3 goal advantage when he finished from a narrow angle after a mazy run, and with 10 minutes remaining Woodman grabbed his second and Grampound's fifth heading in another Orchard corner.
