Saturday 24 September 2011 Polperro 1-2 Grampound(Duchy League Division 1) A team put together to withstand the expected physical battering at Polperro had much the better of the first 25 minutes, playing all the football and restricting the home side to very little. Jason Retallick was the only worry when he aggaravated an injury but he opened the scoring while recovering when Ford's long cross from the left found him in space at the far post and he finished comfortably, giving Grampound a deserved lead. Five minutes later, Grampound really took charge when Weeks drove through the home midfield and unleashed an arrow of a shot past the diving keeper's right hand for what will be a goal of the season contender. Polperro came back into it a little but that was a prelude for them throwing everything at Grampound in the second half. The defence, though, was superbly brave and Henderson in goal made a couple of decent saves. Grampound could have put the game safe but the home keeper also saved well on a couple of occasions. In the last seconds of the game the ball looked to have run out of play but was crossed into the area and handled by Lloyd. The penalty was scored to give a not fully deserved consolation but the proximity of the final whistle allowed no further alarms. |
