Launceston 1-1 Grampound

(P M Bartlett Cornwall U18 League)
Back to Fixtures

Grampound played their first ever Under-18 match at Launceston on a beautiful autumn evening under floodlights and despite a bright opening were under pressure for much of the first half. Launceston's movement caused constant problems and Grampound did not help themselves by too often wanting a little too much time on the ball. Keeper Sam Cooke was splendid throughout the opening half, showing good handling as well as organising his defenders, and it was largely due to him that the half remained goal-less.

Grampound were much improved in the second half, looking dangerous on the break and managing to stifle the hosts' attacks much more comfortably. Grampound took the lead just before the hour when Jon Ridd volleyed into the roof of the net from twenty yards. With Launceston seeking the equaliser, Grampound missed a couple of good opportunities to extend their lead and were disappointed to concede in the very last minute to a good shot from the edge of the penalty area.
