Roche 1-10 Grampound
(P M Bartlett Cornwall U18 League)
Back to Fixtures
We kicked off and played the ball to right back James Bragg and without even looking for the ball the Roche left wing Scott Lawton smashed into him flooring him and giving a free kick within 20 seconds. That rattled us and for a few minutes the back four needed to settle but then never looked back and each gave a solid performance. Johnny Ridd and Ben Ringrose started the rout before Roche caught us sleeping at the back and the striker managed to tap it over the oncoming Cookie Monster! We attacked straight away and scored 30 seconds from the kick-off. Their left winger had been off and on the pitch like a yo-yo and seemed to be winding himself up. We were in complete control of the game at this stage and started the second half composed and were on the attack again.
Half-time 1-3
Curtis Lobb came on for Toby Keast at left back. Dean Southworth scored a good goal to settle us again and then we started to find ourselves with plenty of time on the ball and knocked it all around the pitch comfortably. The left winger by this stage was being run all over the place so quite obviously wound up placed a nasty tackle from behind on Ben Ringrose and as he got up kicked out as well. Ben raised his arms and pushed the lad and the referee quickly dealt with the situation by red carding the Roche player and yellow carding Ben. Correct decision.
Ben reacted superbly for the rest of the match and scored the next goal.
Dean and Johnny got the next 2 before substitute Sam Hadfield ran into the box and scored with his first touch. Roche mad a rare attack into the box after the defence got a bit tired and a trip in the box gave away a cheap penalty. Sam Cooke pulled off a fantastic full stretch save to his left after a well hit penalty looked certain to go in close to the post. Henry Hughes then came on for Luke Wallis – and scored after Dean twisted and turned in the box so many times he made himself dizzy. Man of the match Johnny Ridd then completed his hat-trick to make it a very important and enjoyable victory away from home. Credit must go to a rock solid defence – Ben, George, James, Curtis and Toby as almost all of the attacks came from playing the ball out of the back. |
