(Cornwall Premier League Cup)
Back to Fixtures

An excellent display against a strong and illustrious Truro City side resulted in a narrow, well-deserved win. Grampound dominated the opening and Mike Saunders stabbed home afterjust 5 minutes. Grampound played some neat football on a very heavy surface and looked as if they might extend their lead but as the half progressed Grampound's passing became longer and this brought the visitors back into the match. An equaliser arrived on about the half-hour when Tony Ford might have done better with a shot that was not hit particularly well.

Grampound looked the better side again in the second half but could not manage to score the important goal, hitting the post and going close several times. It looked as if Truro would nick a win when they scored a scrambled goal with about 15 minutes left. To their credit, Grampound kept going and were beginning to look the fitter of the two teams and it only took a few minutes for Ross Burnett to hit the equaliser, finding space to get on the end of a fine cross. Minutes from the end, Mike Saunders scored his second when he slammed home another cross and Grampound Vets had secured a good result on their first outing of the season.
