Newquay Minor 6-2 Grampound Res.

(Duchy League Div 4)
Back to Fixtures

Grampound played with the wind in the first half on an excellent Mount Wise surface and took the lead when Ryan Maker found the top corner after a neat one-two with Jules Woodman. Grampound failed to make the most of the wind and the final pass was often overhit and some players were greedy when other players were well placed. Newquay Minor equalised, although rather fortunately, when a cross went straight in. Grampound lose Ben Gillard through injury at the start of the second half, having already lost Kev Toms in the first half. Minor then went 2-1 up with a header from a corner, but Ryan Orchard equalised after good work by Steve Webb. A defensve error gifted Minor the lead once more and failure to maintain possesion as well as a lack of fitness from some players meant that it was one-way traffic for the remainder of the game with Minor scoring 3 more, with the overworked defence making a number of last ditch tackles and a couple of excellent saves from Bennett-Glew denying Minor further goals. Grampound have yet to play a poor side in this division, and if the team do not take their chances and do not keep posession then they are going to be punished by teams in this league as has been the case so far this season.
