Saturday 7 November Grampound 1-1 Bodmin Saints(Duchy League Div 1) After the resignation of manager Tony Ford, the team for this Saturday was managed by chairman Allan Webb and senior player Glyn Ford. Grampound began well, with a fresh team plan, and looked as dangerous as the visitors in the first half. Harris missed a gilt-edged chance from 6 yards and a sixzzling drive from Roseveare was tipped over after some neat passing. After 25 minutes Shane Weeks hit a shot from 25 yards which dipped over the keeper to give the hosts the lead. Grampound's pressing game was working but needed a very high level of fitness to maintain and with ten minutes to half time Saints had started to work around Grampound's strategy. The visitors pushed forwards in the scond period but Grampound defended well, but Saints missed a couple of chances to get themslves back in the game. At the other end, a Lee Budge shot was parried and Fletcher's follow-up shot was tipped over. Saints continued to press and a deserved equaliser came their way when Hicks misjudged a soft shot and allowed the ball to pass him into the net. Grampound refusedto be beaten, however, and their task wa made a little easier when a Saints player over-reacted to a foul and was shown a red card. Some strong defending in the final quarter of an hour saw Grampound earn a well-deserved point for a very gutsy performance, typified by man-of the-match James Brooke at centre backr. |
