(Duchy League Div 1)
Back to Fixtures

Grampound began very slowly and after Harris allowed Dingle to break clear in the first minute it always looked as if the home team would go a goal down. As it happened, Hicks in the Grampound goal held up the Mevagissey striker and Harris got back, but the shot on goal was on its way in as Harris blocked it on the line. The referee adjudged it as handball, in which case Harris should have seen a red card in the first minute of the season. The referee awarded the penalty but did not show Harris a red card - a strange decisision - but Dingle duly despatched the spotkick. Soon after Grampound were again caught square and too much time was given to the visiting forwards. Hicks saved the shot from 25 yards but the rebound was hit past him to put the visitors two up after 7 minutes. Gramound didn't panic and slowly eased themselves back into the game. A corner from the left was met by John Brooker, returning to the club after a couple of years up country, and his sweet header found the back of the net.

The second half saw Grampound look the fitter of the two teams but they did not look like getting past the superb Meva centre-back and on the only occasion they did he felled Glyn Ford with a cynical tackle. Dean Dunn missed a good chance and Steve Moorcroft steered a cross wide from 3 yards but the visitors had their own chance stoo and Hicks in Grampound's goal made a series of good saves.Grampound had opportunities but In the last seconds the solid Hicks missed a low bobbly shot and the ball ended up in the corner of the net to make the points safe for Mevagissey.
