Mevagissey 2-3 Grampound

(Duchy League Div 1)
Back to Fixtures

A solid Grampound performance, defending soundly and breaking with real intent, characterised this excellent result, possibly the performance of the season. Grampound were always a threat and promotion hopefuls Mevagissey relied on a high ball over the opposing defence as more or less their only attacking option. Grampound deservedly took the lead on 25 minutes when Scott Roseveare's dribble fooled the home offside trap and he went on to slip the ball to Ryan Orchard who drilled the ball into the corner of the net.

The second period began brilliantly for Grampound when a sublime ball from Weeks relaesed liam Streat and he went on, avoiding a foul tackle, to comfortably slip the ball past the home keeper. Grampound were seemingly out of sight when Straet repaid the pass and Weeks went on to score. Grampound contrived to miss 2 or 3 nailed-on chances as Meva pushed forward and it was the home team who scored next with Chris Dingle hitting a fine shot into the net off the far post after a clearance was mis-hit. Grampound blood pressure rose further when Meva pulled back a second with a freak goal but held out for the remaining period without too many scares, and could even have extended their single-goal lead.

This result confirmed Grampound's place in Duchy Division 1 next season.

Many thanks to Graham Allen, who refereed when the appointed official failed to arrive.
