Grampound 5-2 St Stephen

This was a must-win game for both teams but it was Grampound who looked the most likely to score with Steve Webb and Ryan Orchard looking dangerous in every attack. It took until 30 minutes, though, for Grampound to open the scoring when Orchard ran on to a through ball and lobbed the ball over the advancing keeper. A thunderous free-kickfrom Steve Webb was somehow kept out with a great save from the visiting keeper and Grampound managed to miss a couple more presentable chances before a long ball over the Grampound central defenders caused some hesitation and Harris's headed back pass to keeper Cooke was intercepted and chipped over him for an equaliser from nowhere. A stunned Grampound re-grouped and a long clearance was headed on by Tanguy. The flick was collected by Steve Webb and he carried the ball on and slotted the ball home past the advancing goalkeeper. A goal ahead at half-time was satisfactory but Grampound knew they had played reasonably well without really testing the visiting defence as much as they should.

St Stephen started the second half brightly without creating too much and Grampound found it difficult to find any real rythmn in their play. On 70 minutes a corner from the right found Moorcroft unmarked only a couple of yards out and the ball seemed to hit him and carry into the back of the net for Grampound's third goal. Grampound are not good with two goal leads and it was not long before St Stephen reduced the arrears to one with a freakg oal when a cross from Ross Dunn bounced over Cooke and into the far corner. With the Grampound management sensing another possible disaster, Tanguy almost made a clear chance for himself but with the St Stephen goalkeeper stranded, Steve Webb laid the ball off for Andy James to slot the ball home for Grampound's fourth. Five minutes from time Steve Webb outpaced the St Stephen defence and confidently planted the ball in the net to give Grampound their best win of the season.
