Grampound 3-2 Maker with Rame

(Duchy League Div 1)
Back to Fixtures

Grampound had the perfect start in this vital relegation battle when Ryan Orchard drilled home after just 8 minutes. Instead of pushing on, however, Grampound allowed Maker back into the game and although Ford in Grampound's goal had very little to do, the initiative was passed to the visitors. Having said this, Tanguy, Steve Webb and Orchard all missed gilt-edged chances to put the game beyond Maker and should have been out of sight on chances created. As it was, 5 minutes before the break a long clearance from skipper James Webb was seized upon by Shane Weeks and his perfect lob settled in the far corner to give Grampound a two goallead.

After the break, Grampound's lacklustre performance continued and Maker scored a good goal when a free kick was head into the roof of the net. Ten minutes later Maker were level afterhesitancy in the Grampound defence allowed the ball to be poked past Ford. Grampound could hardly believe the position they were now in and, as well as denying Maker any more real opportunities, set about scoring the winning goal they felt they deserved. orchard hit a post, Weeks hit the bar and countless other chances were missed. Steve Webb was unlucky when a fearsome drive shaved the post and just 7 seconds from time, according to the referee, he again caused havoc in the visiting defence. Juggling and shielding the ball in the penalty area, Webb turned and created enough space for him to smash the ball home from about 8 yards out for the winner.
