Sunday 1 March Grampound 3-3 Lostwithiel(East Cornwall Youth League, Under-16s) What a cracking match! For the first time in months we had perfect weather, a good pitch, and two evenly matched teams who did not disappoint the large crowd. However it did not look good for Grampound in the first 15 minutes as we struggled to get to grips with their tall and lightning quick forwards. We soon found ourselves 2 down before we had even shaken the sleep out of our eyes. A change of formation settled us down and chances were soon being created. Unfortunately no-one wanted to take one and a succession of laughable misses left us unfairly 2-0 down at halftime. Once more, the now famous Grampound team spirit came to our rescue. 2 goals in a minute from Lewis and Stu after a brilliant save from Graham to prevent us going 3-0 down got us right back into the match and we looked certain to go on and win. Unfortunately having tied up their centre forward after his opening salvo we let him run free for one moment and he fired in his hatrick and to leave us scrabbling for an equaliser in the last 10 minutes. Finally in the last minute of the game we got what we deserved as Theo slotted the ball home. Overall a good performance but we should have won. We created more clear cut chances and played the better football. |
