Saturday 29 November Pensilva Res. 4-0 Grampound Res.(Duchy League Div. 4) Grampound Res. made the worst start possible when with about 30 seconds on the clock lack of focus and concentration allowed a Pensilva player in around the back on the far post and he had the easiest task to hit the ball home. Although Pensilva continued to carry a threat, most of Grampound's problems stemmed from the insistence on playing the ball blindly into spaces to allow opposition players easy possession. Working hard to win the ball seemed pointless when it was given away cheaply at almost every opportunity. Orchard did have a couple of good attempts on goal and might have done better pulling the ball back when at an acute angle close in but instead he hit the side netting. Grampound started more brightly in the second half with Orchard having a goal disallowed for a very doubtful offside and Reilly being apparently clipped by the keeper when about to pass into an empty net from 5 yards, only for the referee to wave play on when even their captain thought it should have been a penalty. From then on it was Pensilva who looked much more likely to score, and with Grampound's midfield being continually overrun and winning very little it was inevitable that the hosts would extend their lead. Three goals in the last 10 minutes punished an exhausted Grampound back four who, in the last period of the game, had seemingly little protection. |
