Duchy 4 favourites St Austell took only 5 minutes to get off the mark against relegation candidates Grampound. A ball was chipped over the top of the Grampound defence which rightback Leaney failed to deal with and was muscled off the ball by Luke Patten. Patten then squeezed his shot under Strickland in the Grampound goal from just inside the Grampound 18 yard box.
St Austell over the next half hour had virtually all the possesion and seemed to use the width of Grampound's pitch well by getting several crosses into the Grampound box. Luckily for Grampound Topham and Woodman were comfortably able to deal with them. After 35 minutes Topham almost equalised for Grampound with a header from a corner going inches wide.
Moments later St Austell extended their lead despite a clear offside in the build up.
Grampound couldn't believe thier bad luck when 2 minutes later St Austell made the score 3-0. Patten grabbing his second when appearing to be 3 yards offside from Pascoe's header.
Grampound were terrible in the second half and seemed incapable of stringing 2 passes together. Too many players seemed content to just balloon the ball in any direction rather than play a simple ball to feet.
Unsurprisingly St Austell added 5 goals to their tally in the second half and it could have been more if it had not been for poor finishing, some good saves from Strickland and a few last ditch tackles from the hard working Grampound defence.
Once again Grampound spent 90 minutes defending and unless they start to hang on to the ball for longer it is hard to see how Grampound are going to avoid relegation to Duchy 5.
