Saturday 20 September Grampound 4-1 St Minver(Duchy League Division 2) The home team were depleted through injuries and manager Tony Ford had to put himself on the bench. Some of the starting line-up were also carrying injuries but he was able to welcome back Scott Rosevear from suspension and Matt Ellis. Grampound began well for once, looking by far the better team in the opening minutes and had several chances to score before Matt Ellis stabbed home on just 5 minutes after the ball came towards him off the post from Dai Moseley's header. With such an early lead and with the visitors regularly presenting them with the ball it looked as if Grampound might go on to win comfortably, but it took a long time for the hosts to make the game safe. An innocuous free kick was lifted into the Grampound penalty box just minutes after they had taken the lead and sloppiness allowed a player to lose his marker and take advantage of the flick on to put St Minver back on terms. For the remainder of the game St Minver, although playing their hearts out, offered little real threat. Grampound found it very difficult to find any real rythmn and showed little of their form from just a few weeks ago. With fifteen minutes left and the game meandering somewhat, the ball was played quickly by several players and eventually found Sean Mee at the far post who made no mistake to hammer a debut goal from eight yards. Now ahead and relaxed ,Grampound began to pass comfortably and started to look like a team. Glyn Ford spun on a ball close in and hit the ball goalwards. It was creeping over the line when Keith Cotterill arrived to bang the ball home to be sure. Ford was awarded the goal. Five minutes from time a good run by Matt Ellis brought a terrific saving block, but Dai Moseley, following up, passed the ball into into the goal from 20 yards to give Grampound's fourth. A draw was probably a fair result, but Grampound's management will not be happy with squandering a two goal lead with a couple of joke goals against. |
