Saturday 13 September Grampound 2-2 St Stephen(Duchy League Division 2) Grampound started very slowly and the visiting team controlled the opening period of the game, creating a couple of half chances which they failed to exploit. Glyn Ford shaved the bar for the home team but St Stephen passed the ball around well. The turning point of the first half came when a corner from the right was volleyed into the roof of the net by Grampound's Dean Dunn to give the home side the lead and for the remainder of the firstbhalf it was Grampound who called the tune. The lead was extended soon after when Dai Moseley out-jumped the defence to plant a neat header in the net from another corner. Grampound were now passing the ball around with confidence but St Stephen came out for the second half determined to give the hosts a fight. Grampound found it hard to get going after the break but looked under little pressure until James Webb and keeper Stuart Harris failed to communicate well and St Stephen were presented with a simple chance because of the misunderstanding. Grampound continued to look comfortable at the back until a clearance by Joe Dunn hit a St Stephen striker on the side of the head and ricocheted over Grampound keeper Harris for a freak equaliser. In the last few minutes young Grampound substitute James Fryer brought an excellent save from the St Stephen keeper, and from the resulting corner a clearance rebounded off Webb and went just outside the post to contrast with Grampound's bad luck just a few minutes earlier. A draw was probably a fair result, but Grampound's management will not be happy with squandering a two goal lead with a couple of joke goals against. |
