Saturday 18 October Grampound 1-3 Torpoint Athletic(Duchy League Knockout Cup Round 1) Grampound had a shaky start, giving their Premier Division title challengers a little too much respect. However, with Torpoint having most of the ball ball but creating little, Grampound's confidence grew and they took the lead after some smart passing gave Ford a chance and he calmly stepped inside his defender and slotted the ball home on 25 minutes. A visibly rattled visiting team were rather fortunate to equalise 7 minutes later when it looked as if Tony Ford, Grampound's manager and stand-in goalkeeper, appeared to be fouled as he was collecting the ball. Torpoint were more prominent in the second but their lively forwards never managed to create a real opening and it was left to Brian Stacey to nick two goals from set pieces when he was given a little too much space, although he was well-shackled by Webb and Woodman in open play. Grampound were not too disappointed by the result or the performance. Torpoint were a good side, but there did not look to be 28 league places between the two teams. |
