Saturday 16 May Pelynt 0-3 Grampound(Duchy League Div 2) Grampound were quickly out of the blocks with Tom Bartlett beating the home goalkeeper to the ball on the edge of the area, flicking it over him and stroking the ball into an unguarded net before 2 minutes were up. In the difficult winy conditions, Pelynt always looked vulnerable to balls into the channels and the pace of Grampound attacks and ten minutes later Bartlett found the net again. He outpaced the defenders and smacked the ball early and into the roof of the net for a great goal. Glyn Ford continued to cause problems and went close several times, but as the conditions worsened, Grampound's smart passing became more and more difficult and the game descended into a bit of a midfield scrap although Pelynt did not offer too much of a threat apart from with long throws on the narrow pitch. The second half continued in much the same way with Grampound now able to clear their lines more easily with the wind behind them. Just after the hour, Pelynt were awarded a very generous penalty and it looked as if the home team were being given a way back into the game. The spot kick was hit powerfully but keeper Sean Hicks made the save of the match, getting across and touching the ball over the bar. That save seems to inspire Grampound a little and they were not really put under any pressure after that vital contribution. With just a few minutes left Bartlett chased a long ball over the top, outpaced the defender again and hit a powerful low right-footed shot inside the far post to complete his hat-trick and to put a good complexion on Grampound's last competitive gave of a successful season. |
