Bodmin Saints 2-0 Grampound

(Duchy League Div 2)
Back to Fixtures

A dramatically weakened Grampound team feared the worst against the division leaders who have a habit of trouncing teams who are not quite up to the mark. It was a shame that the early kick-off damaged Grampound's chances as they held their own in comfortable fashion for much of the first half. Saints' were given few opportunities at the business end of the pitch and the bumpy, rutted surface did not allow either team to play much football. The only time Grampound relaxed in the first half resulted in them conceding. Slow to get organised and slow to prevent a cross from inside the penalty area gave an easy chance at the far post and the ballwas headed home.

Although Grampound defended for long periods in the second half they looked reasonably comfortable and might have equalised on two occasions, firstly when the goalkeeper dropped the ball and Shane Weeks' shot hit a defender on the line and secondly when Glyn Ford escaped the home team's defence and pulled the ball back across the goal from 10 yards when a shot into the far corner looked to be the best option. Soon after, a cross into Grampound's penalty box was dealt with but bobbled and bounced to a home forward who made no mistake from 5 yards to make the result safe.

Grampound can be pleased with their battling display with a weakened team, epitomised by Grampound's man of the match Shane Weeks who worked and fought tirelessly for 90 minutes.
