Back to Fixtures

Grampound started slowly in this match and St Anns Chapel could have taken the lead in the very first minute after a mistake in Grampound's defence. The chance was missed but in the opening 20 minutes the home team continued to look vulnerable and Sean Hicks in the Grampound goal had to be at his best, making a couple of good blocks. Grampound did manage to carve out a couple of chances of their own in this period, the best coming when Glyn Ford wriggled away from defenders down the left and pulled the ball back for Jon Ridd who hit his chance high and wide. On 25 minutes a long clearance from Hicks travelled deep into the opponents' half. A second's indecision by the visiting defender allowed Ford to steal the ball and pull it inside for Sean Mee who made no mistake from close range. Now a goal up, Grampound began to settle and from that point on always looked in charge.

The second half continued in much the same vein as the first had finished with the home team doing enough to restict St Anns Chapel to very little at the business end of the pitch. The hardworking Weeks went close for Grampound, with the visiting keeper making an excellent save from his shot, getting the ball onto the bar and behind. Just after the hour, a Grampound corner from the left was not dealt with well by the visitors and Al Woodman was on hand to head into the roof of the net and extend Grampound's lead. Five minutes later, Ford played a clever ball behind St Anns Chapel's defence and Mee flicked a header over the advancing goalkeeper for Grampound's third to put the result beyond doubt. Mee could have scored a couple more but was thwarted by a combination of good goalkeeping and bad luck. Ten minutes from time Dave Harris scored a consolation for St Anns Chapel, but there was no doubt where the points were going with this good win for Grampound over decent opposition.
