Camelford 1-6 Grampound

(Duchy League Div 2)
Back to Fixtures

Grampound completed their third away win in 3 weeks with this routine win at lowly Camelford. Grampound's defence rarely looked under any pressure throughout the game, but when it was Woodman, Webb and Leaney looked just too well-organised for the home team. The tight pitch did not help Grampound's style but they took the lead on 20 minutes when the ball fell to Matt Fletcher and he blasted the ball home from 8 yards. Even though they were in control, Grampound found it difficult to keep the ball well on a bobbly surface, but just before half time Sean Mee collected the ball in his own half and ran with it for 50 yards through the heart of the Camelford defence. He was just too strong and quick for the defenders and he ended his run by sliding the ball past the static home keeper. A minute later, Scott Roseveare repeated the trick. He too drove powerfully through the middle of the Camelford defence, who seemed to part to allow him passage. Roseveare's run ended up with an easy chance 10 yards out and he made no mistake.

Five minutes into the second half some neat passing set up Mee for his second, and it looked at that point as if Grampound may go on to a cricket score such was their dominance. The game, however, went a little flatand Camelford even scored a consolation. A very harsh award for a free kick was driven goalwards for Hicks to make an excellent save. As in the previous match, though, the ball fell to a forward and the ball was slotted home. Grampound missed a host of chances and a number of very dubious offside decisions helped Camelford out and it was not until 10 minutes from time that Grampound scored their fifth. Some neat passing and a well timed run released Glyn Ford and he had no trouble in beating a rooted goalkeeper. Five minutes later Ford scored his second with a similar goal although this time his touch was not quite so good and he had to work harder to squeeze the hall home after managing to get past the advancing goalkeeper.
