Saturday 21 February St Minver 2-3 Grampound(Duchy League Div 2) Grampound looked very comfortable in the opening period of this game, and Jon Ridd managed to blaze over from 10 yards when beautifully set up in the opening minute by some good movement and passing. It didn't seem to matter at the time as Grampound were camped in the hosts' half for much of the time and it seemed as if they might score in any attack. It was the home team, though, who took the lead on 20 minutes when Grampound over-played and then allowed Ben Howarth to get on the wrong side of his marker and he finished well. Ford was put clear by Bawden and finished well but was called back for what appeared to be a very harsh offside decision and then Weeks managed to head over from just a yard out and it looked like it may be developing into one of those afternoons for Grampound. There were some harsh words from the manager at half time and Grampound came out fired up, but they did not expect such a quick equaliser. From the kick-off the ball was played back to the St Minver keeper. His clearance was sliced and Glyn Ford was on hand to pass the ball into an empty net. Five minutes later Mike Bawden latched on to a long clearance and hit a great shot over the advabcing keeper and into the roof of the net to put Grampound ahead. Grampound should have gone on and made the points safe but some slack play down Grampound's left allowed a cross to come in and Howarth's header looked goalbound but brought a great save from Sean Hicks in the Grampound goal. The young keeper was a little unlucky to see the parried ball fall again for Howarth and he managed to put the ball away from close range. ManagerTony Ford made a triple substitution just before the hour and it was Dai Moseley attacking the ball at a corner that gave Grampound the winner. His trademark header took a touch off Ford on the way in but he deserved the goal. Moseley also added a little solidity in Grampound's midfield and they looked in little danger from then on. Indeed, the lead should have been extended but Jon Ridd managed to miss from Ford's low cross when scoring looked easier and two stonewall penalties for fouls on Ford were denied. At the end Grampound were glad to have achieved two away wins on the run. |
