Saturday 6 December Grampound 5-2 Calstock(Duchy League Div 2) Grampound could not have started better when in the very first minute Sean Mee, putting on one side the injury that made him a doubtful starter, powered past Calstock's static defence and put the ball into the corner of the net. Over the next period of the game, Calstock looked dangerous around the Grampound penalty area but also looked by being over-run by the speed of Grampound's Ford, Mee and Weeks. Grampound might have been four goals ahead by the time the second was added on 20 minutes. Mark Cock hit a long free kick into the Calstock penalty areaand Ryan Maker headed goalwards. The ball was about to cross the line when a Calstock defender's head helped it on its way. The hosts might have added a couple more before the break but turned around at two-nil. Grampound continued to dominate the game in the second half and Maker's volley from the edge of the area put them further ahead with the goal of the game. A horrendous challenge on Alastair Woodman completely upended him and his landing caused serious damage requiring an evening at the hospital. The referee gave nothing however, and a shocked home team managed to concede a soft header immediately after the injury. Calstock were reduced to 10 men when a player was shown a second yellow card. Joe Dunn's 35 yard shot over a stranded goalkeeper restored Grampound's three goal advantage and Keith Cotterill calmly beat the goalkeeper when given an opportunity close in. Calstock managed to reduce the arrears with a good break and shot but will probablybe grateful to get away with just a 5-2 defeat whena cricket score might have been possible for the home team.
