(Duchy League Div 2)
Back to Fixtures

With the playing surface at Calstck far worse than anyone expected, Grampound began confidently and Glyn Ford missed a gilt-edged chance but on 15 minutes some soft tackles around the edge of the Grampound penalty area allowed the home side an easy opportunity which they tucked away well. Five minutes later the lead was extended when Grampound failed to clear the ball and a cross gave Underwood an easy header to extend the lead. Grampound knew that two silly mistakes had put the game into the very difficult bracket but fought back well, the difficult wind doing as much as Calstock to keep them out. Shots whistled by the Calstock goal without really troubling the younghome keeper, but just before half time Glyn Ford played a simple ball to Tom Bartlett who powered past the home defence and lasted a great shotinto the far corner. Now back within sight, Grampound almost gifted another goal straight away but keeper Hicks came out to sort out the situation .

Grampound dominated proceedings during the beginning of the second half and had the Calstock defence resorting to desperate measures. A break down the right saw makeshift striker Dean Dunn hit a fine shot that beat the home keeper's left hand at the near post but he might have done better. Soon after, following a corner, Scott Roseveare put Grampound ahead for the first time when he hit a sweet low shot that zipped past the goalkeeper into the bottom corner. After the restart, Calstock committed suicide when Underwood was sent off for abusing the referee but fought back and even equalised when a free header inside Grampound's 6 yard box was allowed. With time still available, Grampound tried for the winner but it was with only a minute to go Weeks and Ford combined brilliantly down the left and Weeks' low cross wa met by Lee Budge, on as substitute for only his second first team appearance. Budge slotted the winner away for Grampound to take all 3 points and to set up some unsavoury scenes between the home players after the match.
