Saturday 11 April

St Stephen 1-0 Grampound

(Duchy League Div 2)
Back to Fixtures

This was a very scrappy game in which Grampound never seemed to get going. Unable to string passes together anywhere on the field and especially where it counted in midfield, the back four were under constant pressure and it was no surprise when eventually St Stephen found a way through in the second half following an error by Greg Dunn who should have cleared the ball to safety. Some players did not carry out their own jobs within the team framework, failed to track back or cover and when given time and space did not manage to pass or deliver a simple ball. Effort was there, but intelligent football or even simple football, sadly, was missing and Grampound were unable to sustain any kind of pressure on a moderate St Stephen defence at any time. Glyn Ford did put away a chance in the first half but was pulled back for a dubious offside decision by the home linesman, but it looked from the outset that it was going to be one of those days from the beginning for a toothless Grampound. Manager Tony Ford will need to think carefully about selections in the remaining games if the team is not to throw away all the hard work done earlier in the season.
