Grampound 0-7 Roche

(East Cornwall Youth League, Under 15s)
Back to Fixtures

Our first home game of the season was always going to be a tough one against a team that has dominated the league to date.  Unfortunately we gave them too much respect and stood off them.  This gave Roche the space they needed to play and they took full advantage.  But it soon became obvious that we were not going to totally capitulate as other teams have done before now. The strong spirit that exists in our team began to shine through and we made Roche work for their win.  I was particularly pleased with the start of the second half.  3-0 at half time, we came out and dominated for the first 15 minutes as we started playing our attractive passing football.  But once again a couple of silly goals given away due to poor marking and that was it, game over.  As our legs tired, their midfield starting running right through us and they scored goals easily.  The final score of 7-0 was a fair result but could have been more if it had not been for Graham in goal, who played a blinder!  I was also very pleased with our two new players Isaac Knight and Ciaran Hatton.

Positives:
Never gave-in, good team spirit.
When we kept the ball and passed it around, we looked the better team.

Negatives:
Marking – we must get closer to our opponents and give them no space to play.
The back line was playing too deep.
Throw-ins (again!).
