Grampound 6-7 Atlantic Porth

(East Cornwall Youth League, Under 15s)
Back to Fixtures

Well, now I know what it’s like to be mugged!  To score 6 goals, dominate the game and walk away the loser is unbelievable.  Mind you in a funny way we deserved to lose it.  We cannot expect to win matches letting in the type of goals that we conceded yesterday.   At one stage I thought we had taken a bung and were part of some betting scam to allow Atlantic Porth to win!!

At times we played wonderful football, full of passing and movement.  At others, it was laughable.    1 – 0 down after 2 minutes we recovered to take the lead 2-1 and it should have been 4 or 5 by half time, but we didn’t apply the killer finish and gave away a silly goal to be 2-2 at half time.  Jonny Ridd scored the 2 goals with Stu Eames and Luke Wallis in particular playing really well.

The second half saw us twice take the lead again only to be pegged back each time to 4-4.   Then we just lost it.  3 goals, each one given away, to somehow end up being 4-7 down with 5 minutes to go.  A late rally got it back to 6-7 to make an exciting finish but the damage had been done.  Jonny Ridd scored another 2 goals to end up with 4, Stu and Lobby added 1 each.

Man of the match would have been Luke but after a stunning first half he went quite in the second, so for a consistent performance throughout the game, Stu Eames was my man of the match.

Positives:
A cracking match.  Great entertainment.
Creating lots of chances with good passing and movement.

Negatives:
Poor fitness.  We run out of steam after 60 minutes.
Poor marking. We just don’t get close enough to our opponents.
Throw-ins (again).
