Saturday 27 October 2007 Grampound 1-2 St Columb Minor(Duchy League Division 2) Grampound, combining a run of bad form with a spate of injuries, managed to lose a game that should have been decided well before half time. Glyn Forn put Grampound ahead when he latched on to a through ball with the defence appealing for offside. The only offside player was Shane Weeks, who sensibly stood still, bu tFord came from an onside position and raced away to slip the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper to give Grampound a deserved lead. The visitors had a fair share of possession for the rest of the half but offered little real threat. Matt Fletcher, playing as a stopgap centre forward, offered a real physical threat but managed to miss a number of clear-cut openings. The second half continued in much the same manner, Grampound missing chance after chance, and with 25 minutes to go it looked as if there could only be one winner. However, the visitors equalised when unbelievably slack marking down Grampound's left allowed a free cross and the ball ended up in the net. More Grampound chances were squandered before, following more problems down Grampound's left, Jason Ridd had the opportunity to thump a good shot home for the winner. Grampound huffed and puffed in the remaining time, but St Columb Minor knew the game was theirs providing they did nothing silly and duly collected all three points. Grampound finished the match wondering how it had all got away from them. |
