Saturday 20 October 2007 Grampound 1-2 Fowey Utd.(Duchy League Division 2) Grampound put out a side depleted of five regulars, but the team still had a solid look to it in the opening minutes as it controlled the game against the the 10 men of the visitors. In spite of lots of possession, though, Grampound found it difficult to get much change out of a Fowey team who sat deep and looked prepared to take a draw as a good result. During a fairly scrappy first half, Dunn down Grampound's left was having a good game and Cooper, restored to the team because of so much unavailability, looked as sound as ever, but the Fowey goalkeeper did not have too much to do. Dunn looked to be fouled in the penalty area but kept his feet and play went on and soon after a powerful header from Dunn looked to be diverted from goal by an outstretched arm but Grampound's appeals were turned away. Frampton at the other end was a lone striker and was well held, escaping only once to test Cooke with a low shot which he pushed around the post. Grampound opened the second half brightly but it was Fowey who took the lead. The ball was pushed around Leaney, with Grampound claiming handball, and smashed into the roof of the net from close range. Grampound upped their pace a little and Weeks hit a stinging shot which was saved well by the Fowey keeper to his left. A series of corners saw the Fowey keeper showing good handling, but at the last of these he could only push out Ford's close range flick and Cooper was on hand to bang home the equaliser. With Fowey tiring it seemed to be a question of if they could hang on but they had other ideas and ten minutes from time a run down the left was allowed with no tracking back and the cross from the goal-line looped up and over Cooke, hit the far post and bobbled into the net for the winner. Fowey held on for the remaining minutes and deservedly took all the points. |
