Saturday 16 February 2008 Grampound 0-0 Pelynt(Duchy League Division 2) Grampound began the game solidly after making a number of changes to the line-up, but Pelynt slowly exerted more influence. With both defences well on top, little of consequence happened in the first half - lots of effort from both teams but little spark or invention. The only real chance of the half came when Fletcher appeared to be pushed off the ball in his own penalty area. With keeper Ford on the floor it looked as if all the Pelynt striker had to do was pass the ball into the unguarded net, but Greg Dunn, restored at left back, saved the goal with a last ditch thunderous tackle. The second half was a little more lively as both sides chased the single goal that looked as if it would win three points. A stinging drive from Weeks was touched around the post by the diving Pelynt keeper, and Tony Ford at the other end made a couple of excellent saves from goalbound Pelynt shots. In the dying minutes his brother Glyn wriggled free inside the Pelynt penalty area but was pushed wide by some desperate defending. He managed to turn and chip the ball towards John Ward but, with the empty goal gaping, the substitute's header from five yards was wide. With that went Grampound's last chance of all the points. |
